Bigger Things In Store for Brilliant Finishing Brave

Former top hoop and respected horseman Ron Ryan is predicting a bright future for late maturing Brave Intent after the mare produced a whirlwind finish to win at Cluden on Friday.

Ryan, deputising on the day for his trainer wife Janel, was astonished with Brave Intent’s blistering final burst to take out the Brown Brothers 0-55 Hcp (1000m) from three lengths last.

“I know it was only a low grade race but they just don’t do that, come from back there like that,” Ryan said.

“I think she’ll go for a break now. She’s still maturing.

“We’ve always had an opinion of her. She’s just been learning to race each time.

“Today sort of proved that with how she found the line.

“We had her in a 1400m at the last meeting here and she drew 14 alley and we decided to put her out and freshen her and go for the 1000m.

“So the plan’s come off and the owners are real happy.

“We know what she can do on the track and we think she’s got a future.”

Brave Intent provided Townsville winning jockey Chelsea Jokic, now based in Beaudesert, with a winning return to Cluden.

Cluden’s champion hoop Lacey Morrison returned to Cluden in brilliant touch in her first meeting back since Townsville Cup Day on August 12.

Morrison was the punters’ pin-up with wins on Speed Legend for Roy Chillemi and Mazzaratti for Fred Wieland and landed the last on 16-1 shot Lady Rain for Townsville trainer Graham Hughes.

Chillemi made it a double when Crowning Moment scored and Wieland finished with two winners as well when Bakersfield saluted.
