TAB TEM Calcutta

Our longstanding tradition of the TAB TEM Calcutta will return in 2022 on Thursday 4 August.

The evening is your chance to be part of all the action of the amazing Townsville Cup Race.

Each Calcutta ticket sold goes into the pool for the Calcutta auction. The more tickets that are sold, the greater the starting prize pool. The Calcutta is for the Townsville Cup Saturday, 6 August 2022.
Once ticket sales are finalised, the draw begins. The horses are drawn from top weight to bottom weight and a ticket is drawn to match each horse. The lucky ticket holders become known as the drawer.
Once all the horses are drawn, then the fun begins with the auction. The auction begins with the bottom weight and finishes with the top weight.
When a horse sells in the auction, the drawer gets half of the bidded value and the other half goes into the prize pool. If the drawer wants a chance to win the prize pool, they must buy their horse or another horse in the auction. If they buy their own horse, they pay only half the bidded value which goes into the prize pool. The fiercer the auction, the bigger the final prize pool.
The running of the cup Saturday, 6 August 2022 then determines the winners of the Calcutta prize pool, with 70% going to first place, 20% to second place and 10% to third place.
