Gun filly on path to Gold Coast Jewel

21st February 2024 | By Tony Wode

QTIS riches at the Gold Coast beckon for classy Townsville filly Time To Prophet after she claimed the $25,000 2YO Jewel Qualifier at Cluden Park.

Time To Prophet booked a berth in the $500,000 Jewel final after handing premiership trainer Georgie Holt her 100th Townsville winner.

Holt not only chalked up the ton, but capped a memorable day when stablemates Tioga Pass and Hurtle sealed a winning treble.

The young trainer is keen to send Time To Prophet south for the Jewel.

“I think we will at this stage. She does struggle with the heat a little bit so it will depend a fair bit on her recovery after today,” Holt said.

“All going well and she recovers from the run, we’ll look to make some plans to get her down there.

“The owners are all very keen. It’s an opportunity you probably don’t want to pass up.

“We didn’t go with Annie Mariah when she won this race in 2021 and we regretted it.

“I’m not saying she would have won but it was a weaker race that year and you don’t get a shot at that sort of prizemoney too often.”

Time To Prophet is by Divine Prophet and out of the Barely A Moment mare No Time (now deceased).

The filly created a big impression on debut, claiming the time honoured Pallarenda Stakes fillies’ division by a widening three lengths in October.

At her second start she was surprisingly beaten by the stable’s lesser fancied Dance For Me Randy in November before both were spelled.

In the Jewel Qualifier, Time To Prophet was given a trouble free run outside the leader by leading jockey Justin Stanley on the way to her gutsy win over the fast finishing That’s It to win by long head.

Dance For Me Randy closed late for third to give the Holt stable a satisfying all round result.

“Time For Prophet is a smart filly,” Holt said.

“We did expect her to go pretty well today, but first-up from a spell after their first real prep you have that little doubt there.

“She’s been a race horse since day one and she proved that today.

“Randy ran extra well too. I think 1200m will suit him down to the ground and he showed that with the way he finished off.”

“It was pretty good to bring up the hundred winning with the filly.

“We had a rough day at Cairns yesterday with one doing a tendon and another did a joint.

“It was nice to bounce back with a good day today.”

The Holts extended their lead in the Townsville premiership race with yesterday’s treble with a season tally of 12 wins.

After scaling back from a team of 23 to just seven horses in the summer, the stable is again rebuilding with a focus on acquiring quality rather than quantity.

But while plans to move south are currently on hold, it’s just a case of time before the Holts could be lost to Townsville racing.

“Both Aidan and I have a goal to move south, but we just have to be patient and wait for the right opportunity to come along,” Holt said.

Meanwhile, hard working jockey Adrian Layt landed his second winning double in successive Cluden meetings.

Townsville-based Layt, who regularly travels from Cairns all the way down to Rockhampton chasing winners, was at his finest winning on veteran maidener Shadow Eclipse for jockey-trainer Ngarie Nelson, and He’s Exceptional for Jeffrey Caught.
