Tiger ready for Intruder is stablemates clash
Trainer Tony Comerford believes there won’t be much between
stablemates Ready Tiger and Intruder when they go head-to-head at
Cluden Park on Sunday as the winter season comes to a close.
The two gallopers – both winners over the Cluden ‘mile’ - are
Comerford’s only horses in work and will line-up leading chances in the
Mitavite BM65 Hcp (1609m) .
“It’d be good if they could dead-heat,” Comerford said.
“They’re equally good chances but it all comes down to who gets the
best run.”
Comerford has freshened Ready Tiger after a win in Townsville and then
a third over 1900m in Cairns in July, and an unplaced run over 2000m at
Cluden on Cup Day on August 8.
His return to the 1609m is the key to his chances according to
Comerford who has one of the best career strikes rates in town at 15%.
“Ready Tiger probably can’t stay. Even after the Cairns run his jockey
Lacey Morrison said that she didn’t think he’d get any further than a mile
and I think she was right,” Comerford said.
“He won over the 2000m here last year but it was a slowly run race and
it wasn’t a tough test.
“We sort of knew he couldn’t get it but there were no races around and
we gave him a go on Cup Day.
“He drew wide, was three deep, went forward and got pressured and
really had no hope.
“He’s freshened up good. He’s had three weeks between runs and he’ll
be alright.”
Brisbane based apprentice Mitch Goring won on Ready Tiger and
guided Intruder to a strong all the way win over the mile on August 18.
He had the pick of the two for Sunday but deferred to Comerford.

“He said you pick. I thought he rode Intruder good so I think he’s
probably the one for later on and he’ll probably stick with him down the
track,” Comerford said.
“Intruder hit the line pretty well when he won last start. They didn’t run
any time but he was strong and his run before that was good when he
got a bit of pressure.
“He has started to hit a bit of form. His runs have progressively been
getting better.
“Intruder got an easy time in front last time and if he happened to get
that sort of run again he’ll go well. But these sorts of horses take turns in
winning. Whoever gets the best run wins and he got the best run the
other day.”
