Beau and Kefalonia Head Attard Team on Bumper Cluden Card

Lady luck deserted them last start, but Wulguru trainer Chris Attard is confident stablemates Bondi Beau and Kefalonia can redeem themselves at Cluden Park tomorrow.

Attard will saddle up seven runners on tomorrow’s bumper nine-event card, with Bondi Beau and Kefalonia spearheading the stable’s attack.

The pair will line-up warm favourites in the Cluden Park Sports Bar Cl6 Hcp (1200m) and NQ Licensed Events B60 Hcp (1400m) respectively.

“They were both unlucky not to win last start and I expect them to go close tomorrow,” Attard said.

“Bondi Beau got held up in Mackay and didn’t get out until the last 100m and just got beaten, and Kefalonia was caught three wide at his last run here and was just run down.

“I’d say Bondi Beau is probably the better chance because he’s tried and proven.

“He’s drawn out in 10 but there doesn’t seem to be too much speed so he’ll go forward.

“The 1400m is a touch too far for Kefalonia but his last run was over the trip and he ran well after a wide run, and from gate 1 he should get a soft run.”

Ironically enough, Bondi Beau defeated Kefalonia by a nose over 1200m at Cluden in September before his unlucky second to Avocado Sunset in Mackay over 1100m on October 2.

Kefalonia was then trapped three wide and fought on strongly for third to As Yawood at his next run and meets a similar class field tomorrow.

Earlier on the card, in-form sprinter Cheveau will chase his fifth win from his past six starts when he lines up in the Hygain Open Hcp (1000m).

Trainer Matt McGuire has sparked a form resurgence in the seven-year-old this year and he will go into the race a short-priced favourite with barrier one.

Cheveau showed he’d come back better than ever from a spell  with a powerhouse first-up win at the Cairns carnival over 960m beating Hard Yaga.

He is a dual winner over the 1000m at Cluden and will be ridden by his regular jockey Scott Sheargold.

Flying mare Which Lily shapes as the main danger with a brilliant record of three wins and four placings from seven starts over the course, but will have to bounce back from a last start failure at Ewan.

McGuire’s chances don’t end with Cheveau. He is set to play a big hand on the day with Endinae (3yo Mdn – 1200m), Last Chance Dance (C.U.B. Cl3 – 1000m), and Rothman (Class 6 Hcp -1200m) all rated strong chances.

His father Patrick will saddle up Zaberfeldie in the NQ Licensed Event Hcp (1400m).
